The Hans Saari Memorial Fund Education Grant
The Hans Saari Memorial Fund Education Grant encourages the development of educational programs related to avalanches and safe travel in avalanche environments by providing grants to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations wishing to initiate or enhance educational programming. The Grant is not intended to support the organization’s general operations, capacity building, or other programs the organization may offer. While the grants may not completely cover the costs associated with these programs, they may offset the direct costs of these programs, provide a means to expand curricula, or extend the reach of the programs into new communities.

The Fund originated as a means to support the educational initiatives of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center (GNFAC). We believe that the GNFAC and other regional avalanche centers are effective at spreading the message about avalanche safety and safe mountain travel. Hence, as opportunities arise, the Fund intends to continue its support of the GNFAC and other avalanche centers. Additionally, we will consider grants to other organizations who that include avalanche education as part of their programming. The grant money provided by the Fund is intended exclusively for direct use in programming with a major avalanche education component. The Fund’s Education Committee reviews grant applications twice yearly and may award up to three grants of $5,000.00 each during award cycles. Applications are due on February 26 and August 30. Applications may be submitted online. Submissions without signatures on the application and Acceptance of risk Agreement will not be considered. Applicants for the February deadline will be notified of award at the end of March, while August submissions will be reviewed by September 30.
