The HSMF Youth Ski Mountaineering Camps provide technically accomplished young skiers the opportunity to improve their backcountry decision-making skills by joining an intensive instructional camp.

The camps are a priority initiative of the Fund, growing out of our awareness of the need to provide a structured setting for young skiers to learn about the hazards of winter travel. With the advent of wide skis and the opening of ski area boundaries, youngsters have an ever-increasing ability to easily place themselves in hazardous situations. The goal of the camp is to mitigate the risks of these situations by providing mentoring from top skiers and guides. Participants learn about hazard evaluation, steep ski techniques, leadership, and decision making in the ski mountaineering environment. This year's camp is scheduled for May 15-20, 2015 in Girdwood, Alaska.
